B.A. Literature and Languages (Hons.) | Curriculum
Overview
In the Department of Literature and Languages, SRM University, AP, literature is imparted as a skill, language as a science and the pedagogy is an art. With the revamping of the entire curricula, the Department has incorporated several modifications in terms of content, delivery and assessment.
- The previously existing course on Communicative English has now become an Ability Enhancement Course offered to students across all schools of the University, and divided into five different components− LSRWPr (listening, speaking, reading, writing and presentation) which will be taught over a period of two semesters.
- Innovative modes of instruction have been implemented for all core courses, skill enhancement courses, open elective, and minor courses alike, such as lectures, blended learning, research-based activities, interactive presentations, group discussions, practicals, projects and other multimodal strategies.
- All assessments are formative from the academic session, 2023-24 onwards. There will be no summative assessments.
These changes will provide the scope for meaningful interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary engagement with literature, language and other communicative skills, that will prove beneficial for students in the long run.
The BA English Programme aims to equip individuals with the ability to excel in diverse contexts, including academic, professional, and social settings. It fosters strong communication skills, critical thinking, and persuasive abilities. This course is designed to prepare participants for research pursuits while maintaining flexibility across various areas of expertise. We offer two options within the program: BA English (Regular) and BA English (Honours with Research).

B.A. English (Regular)
For students seeking a comprehensive discourse in English language and literature, the Regular program is ideal. Over three years, students will complete 136 credits, which encompass ability enhancement, value-added, and skill enhancement courses, in addition to core courses. The first semester is common to all BA programs within the school (SLASS). From the fourth to the sixth semesters, students can choose core electives from a catalog of courses. Furthermore, in accordance with NEP 2020, the BA English (Regular) program includes a mandatory summer internship that students must undertake during the summer break after their second year (in the fourth semester). Upon completing the program, students will have received holistic training in the English language and literature, enabling them to speak authoritatively on English-related topics.
