Introduction to the Programme
The two years M. Sc Chemistry programme is a major programme at the Department of Chemistry, SRM University-AP. The programme consists of four semesters with continuous evaluation of the students. The curriculum and syllabus are designed to cover all aspects of general chemistry in a holistic approach. In the two-year MSc programme, we intended to provide research-based learning that involves the proper blend of theory and experimental aspects, including project work. In the year-long project, the students spend time with a research group of their interest, which gives them hands-on research experience by being part of the high-quality, cutting-edge research happening at SRM University-AP.
Furthermore, the project work gives them access to handle sophisticated instruments. The interactive nature of the practical course, seminar, and project work together is formulated to build confidence in them. They would be able to conduct high-quality research in their future endeavours. The curriculum and course contents are drawn, keeping an eye on the advancement of every aspect of chemistry.
Eligibility
BSc Chemistry or equivalent from any UGC recognised university/ college.

Vibrant Atmosphere
The chemistry department at SRM AP is composed of dynamic faculties across diverse research areas creating and spreading new knowledge at the forefront of science. Excellent teaching, close faculty-student relationships, and competitive research programs characterize the department. In many cases, faculty, post-doctoral fellows, research scholars, graduate, and undergraduate students collaboratively pursue interdisciplinary research at SRM AP.
World-class faculty
The department of Chemistry at SRM-AP has a highly qualified team of seven faculty members with rich experience in research, teaching, and industrial experience. Our faculty members awarded PhD from reputed universities such as the National University of Singapore, National Tsing Hua University, IIT-Madras, CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, and National Chung-Hsing University, Taiwan. All our faculty members are acquired post-doctoral experiences in foreign universities/institutes. In the last four years, the chemistry faculty have attracted external funding with a total outlay of 1.16 Crores through 5 projects from various funding agencies such as DST-SERB, DST-NSM, and Amar Raja Batteries. Sixty-four (64) research papers have been published by our faculty members in various high-impact factor peer-reviewed journals. Their ability to carry out world-class research is demonstrated by their publications in peer-reviewed journals with high-impact factors.
Research Facility
The department houses sophisticated instruments like XRD, TCSPC, Glove Box, FT-IR, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, advanced computational facilities, etc., to carry out state-of-the-art research.
MSc Research Project
Department of chemistry offers a 10-credit project course work (research) during the 2nd year (viz.,3rd and 4th semesters) of the course. In this research project, the student should engage and carry out research activity in their area of interest under the guidance of one of our faculty members. This research project may result in a publication or a patent. At the end of the project, the student must defend their thesis in an expert committee at the department of chemistry. The rigorous training of students would improve their confidence to solve a scientific problem with the right approach. Furthermore, the research project would motivate them to pursue higher education or industry careers.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)
Equip the post-graduates with a strong understanding of the fundamental principles of chemical science, as well as practical applications in various contemporary sub-branches.
Train the post-graduates to design experiments and conduct independent research in laboratories.
Prepare the post-graduates to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to solve complex research problems by making research-based presentations and by carrying out research based projects.

We will have post-graduates who have thorough knowledge of the concepts of chemistry and be able apply chemical principles to solve problems in a variety of contexts.
